I-84 EASTBOUND detour

Motorists should follow Exit 20, Route 8 Northbound to Exit 35 (U-Turn) to Route 8 Southbound and then back to I-84 Eastbound.

ROUTE 8 southbound detour

Motorists should follow the Route 8 Southbound to Exit 32 (Riverside Street). Follow Riverside Street to Route 8 Southbound Naugatuck/Bridgeport on-ramp.

Exit 33 Ramp detour (Route 8 Northbound to I-84 Westbound)

Motorists should follow the Route 8 Northbound Temporary Bypass to the U-turn at exit 35, continuing onto Route 8 Southbound and take Exit 33 to merge onto I-84 Westbound.

 

LANE CLOSURES ON I-84 EASTBOUND AND EXIT 31 ON-RAMP FROM ROUTE 8 SOUTHBOUND TO I-84 EASTBOUND

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that, in order to facilitate construction work associated with the project, lane closures on I-84 Eastbound will begin on Sunday, June 21, 2020 and will continue every Sunday through Friday night. One lane on I-84 Eastbound will be taken beginning at 8:00 p.m. and two lanes are scheduled to close beginning at 10:00 p.m. All lanes will reopen at 6:00 a.m. the following day. These lane closures will continue into the foreseeable future.

In addition to these lane closures, the ramp from Route 8 Southbound to I-84 Eastbound (Bridge 3191D) will be closed for three nights beginning June 21, 2020. The closure will occur between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.  Once reopened, the ramp will be reduced to one lane for stage construction.  Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour. 

Exit 31 On-Ramp to I-84 Eastbound Detour: Motorists traveling Route 8 Southbound should take Exit 32 onto Riverside Street. Take a right onto Sunnyside Avenue (which turns into Chase Parkway) and the I-84 Eastbound on-ramp will be on the right.

LANE CLOSURES ON ROUTE 8 NORTHBOUND AND OPENING OF THE TEMPORARY BYPASS

One lane on Route 8 Northbound will be closed on Friday, August 23, 2019 beginning at 9:00 a.m. This paving will continue around-the-clock in order to complete paving to connect the Southeast and Northeast approaches of the Temporary Bypass to existing Route 8.

One lane of the temporary bypass will open on Friday, August 23, 2019 and an additional lane will open on Sunday, August 25, 2019.

Motorists looking to access I-84 Westbound should continue on the existing Route 8. Motorists looking to access I-84 Eastbound will utilize the temporary bypass, continue to Exit 35 and use the Median U-Turn back onto Route 8 Southbound to access I-84 Eastbound. Motorists traveling to Torrington and points north should utilize the Temporary Bypass and then continue on to existing Route 8 Northbound.

Temporary and permanent signage will be in place to direct motorists to their destination. Motorists are advised to not drive distracted and follow speed limits.     

Closure of the Exit 31 Off-Ramp from Route 8 Northbound to I-84 Eastbound

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that construction work associated with the Route 8/I-84 Interchange (Mixmaster) rehabilitation project in Waterbury will close the Exit 31 Off-Ramp from Route 8 Northbound to I-84 Eastbound beginning on July 15, 2019.    

The project consists of the rehabilitation of numerous bridges located within the Route 8 and I-84 Interchange and was awarded to Walsh Construction Company at a cost of $152,960,945.27 on April 18, 2018 and is scheduled to be completed September 10, 2022. This project is administered by the Office of Construction – District 4, Thomaston.

CLOSURE INFO

The Exit 31 Off-Ramp from Route 8 Northbound to I-84 Eastbound will be closed beginning July 15, 2019. This closure will remain in effect until the end of October. The closure is necessary to replace portions of the Route 8 Northbound bridge decks.

A U-Turn has been established to accommodate motorists during this closure. Motorists looking to access I-84 Eastbound from Route 8 Northbound will take Exit 35, utilize the U-Turn to proceed Southbound on Route 8 and then take Exit 31. Advanced signage will be posted along both Route 8 Northbound and Southbound and Exit 35. 

DETOUR INFORMATION

Detour: Motorists should continue on Route 8 Northbound to Exit 35 and use the Median U-Turn back onto Route 8 Southbound and continue to Exit 31 to access I-84 Eastbound.


 

Closure of exit 31 off-ramp from route 8 southbound to i-84 EASTbound 

On Monday, April 29, 2019 and Friday, May 3, 2019, Exit 31 off-ramp from Route 8 Southbound to I-84 Eastbound will be closed from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Motorists are advised to follow the detour route noted below.

Exit 31 On-Ramp to I-84 Eastbound Detour: Motorists traveling Route 8 Southbound should take Exit 32 onto Riverside Street. Take a right onto Sunnyside Avenue (which turns into Chase Parkway) and the I-84 Eastbound on-ramp will be on the right.

Exit 19 Off-Ramp Detour:  Motorists traveling I-84 Westbound should take Exit 18 (West Main Street/Highland Avenue) and stay to the right towards Highland Avenue. Take a right onto Highland Avenue.  At traffic light, take a right onto Chase Parkway.  Take a right onto the I-84 Eastbound on-ramp; follow I-84 Eastbound to Route 8 Southbound.

Exit 20 Off-Ramp Detour:  Motorists traveling I-84 Westbound should take Exit 18 (West Main Street/Highland Avenue) and stay to the right towards Highland Avenue. Take a right onto Highland Avenue.  At traffic light, take a right onto Chase Parkway.  Take a right onto the I-84 Eastbound on-ramp; follow I-84 Eastbound to Route 8 Northbound.


 

Closure of Exit 31 Ramp from Route 8 Southbound to I-84 Eastbound

RAMP CLOSURE INFO

Beginning on Sunday November 18, 2018, the Exit 31 ramp from Route 8 Southbound to I-84 Eastbound will close starting at 7:00 p.m. and will reopen the following morning at 5:00 a.m. This closure will be in effect nightly until Tuesday November 20, 2018. Motorists are advised to follow posted detour routes. 

DETOUR INFORMATION

Motorists should continue on Route 8 Southbound and take Exit 30 (Washington Avenue). At the end of the off-ramp, take a left onto Washington Avenue, then a left onto Riverside Street and then a right onto Bank Street.  Follow signs to I-84 from Bank Street to the on-ramp of I-84 Eastbound. Due to height restrictions on Bank Street a truck detour is provided.  All trucks should also take Exit 30 to Riverside Street; continue to Sunnyside Avenue and then proceed to Highland Avenue to the I-84 Eastbound on-ramp.


 

RIVERSIDE STREET

Southbound Riverside Street has been changed to bi-directional (two-way) traffic. Northbound Riverside Street is now closed. Motorists are advised to follow signs and revised traffic signals.

Exit 30 On-Ramp and exit 32 off-ramp

Upon closure of the Exit 30 On-Ramp (August 23, 2018), traffic will be detoured to Bank Street and Riverside Street.  Motorists will be able to access I-84 Eastbound from Meadow Street and Route 8 Northbound and I-84 Westbound via Riverside Street. Signage will be posted to guide motorists through the detoured route.   

Upon closure of the Exit 32 Off-Ramp to northbound Riverside Street (August 20, 2018), traffic will be detoured at Exit 30 off-ramp and motorists will be guided northerly along South Leonard Street before it becomes northbound Riverside Street.  Signage will be posted to guide motorists through the detoured route.
