Long Term Lane Closure on Route 8 Southbound
January 5th, 2020
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing a scheduled long-term lane closure on Route 8 southbound to facilitate construction work (concrete bridge deck replacement) associated with the Route 8/I-84 Interchange (Mixmaster) rehabilitation project in Waterbury. One lane of Route 8 southbound will be closed beginning on Sunday, January 5, 2020, for a duration of approximately two years.
The closure may cause significant traffic impacts due to the Exit 19 ramp (from I-84 westbound to Route 8 southbound) also being closed. With high traffic volumes, especially during rush hour, the Connecticut Department of Transportation is urging motorists to seek alternative routes if possible.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is working to inform motorists and local residents of current and upcoming construction activities through project newsletters, press notices, travel alerts, social media, as well as the project website, https://mixmaster-rehab.com/. If you have any questions related to construction, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The project consists of the rehabilitation of numerous bridges located within the Route 8 and I-84 Interchange and was awarded to Walsh Construction Company at a cost of $152,960,945.27 on April 18, 2018 and is scheduled to be completed September 10, 2022.
