Temporary Closure of One Lane on Route 8 Southbound

November 21st, 2019

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that in order to facilitate construction work associated with the Route 8/I-84 Interchange (Mixmaster) rehabilitation project in Waterbury daytime lane closures along Route 8 Southbound are necessary. These closures will begin on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 and will extend for approximately two weeks.

The project consists of the rehabilitation of numerous bridges located within the Route 8 and I-84 Interchange and was awarded to Walsh Construction Company at a cost of $152,960,945.27 on April 18, 2018 and is scheduled to be completed September 10, 2022.  This project is administered by the Office of Construction – District 4, Thomaston.

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF ONE LANE ON ROUTE 8 SOUTHBOUND

One lane on Route 8 Southbound will be closed beginning on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 for a 24 hour period Sunday through Friday. These closures may cause significant traffic impacts due to the Exit 19 ramp (from I-84 Westbound to Route 8 Southbound) also being closed. Since there will be high traffic volumes, especially during rush hour, the Connecticut Department of Transportation is urging motor vehicles to seek an alternative route if possible.

** Please note that the start of this closure can change at any time based on weather or resources. **
